In 1978, at least sixteen graves were removed from their original resting place in Old Hopewell Cemetery and moved to The Ashland City Cemetery and buried in one plot. Per the monument, "Originally buried at Hopewell Presbyterian Church Grounds, at west edge of Ashland, then known as Uniontown, these bones were removed in 1978 by the First Presbyterian Church and then buried with prayer here". Names of the sixteen identified remains are on the reverse side of the monument.
