When George arrived in Vietnam, he was assigned to Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division.
Survived by his mother, Jane Santino Capparelli, his sister, Rosa and a brother, James Thomas all of Riverside, New Jersey.
George G. Capparelli was born on May 20, 1948, to Jane and Thomas Capparelli. His home of record is Riverside, NJ. He had one sister, Rosa, and a brother, James. He graduated from Riverside High School in 1966. George played the drums in his high school band. He enjoyed coin collecting and playing with his young nephews.
George was employed by the Riverside Post Office where his photograph still hangs in a place of honor. Every Memorial Day, they pay tribute to their hometown hero. He also ran Capparelli's Shoe Repair business for his widowed mother. This was the family business in town, which was started by his father.
Capparelli served in the US Marine Corps and attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC).
Capparelli was killed in action on May 1, 1968. He is buried in St. Peters Roman Catholic Cemetery, Riverside, NJ.
He was awarded numerous medals and decorations. They include the Vietnam Service Medal and the Purple Heart.
