Rowlett, TX - Russel Arthur Hawks Jr., 79, of Rowlett, Texas died at home surrounded by his family on August 18, 2023, after valiantly fighting lung cancer for the last year.
Russ was born in Peoria, Illinois, on November 6, 1943, to Russel Arthur Sr. and Pauline V. Braden Hawks. Until retiring to Texas in 2011, he lived his entire life in the Peoria area.
Russ proudly served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He joined the Peoria Police Department in 1965, rising to the rank of Lieutenant and retiring in 1995.
Russ was dedicated to his family and generous to those around him.
He is survived by his wife, Gearldine; daughter, Michelle; sons, Michael and Robert; grandchildren, Benjamin, Tucker, Taylor, Ainsley, and Conner; great-granddaughter, Amirah; and sister, Margaret.
Russ was preceded in death by his parents and twin brothers.
It was Russ's wish to not have visitation or funeral services, but the family plans a celebration of Russ's life in Peoria in early November.
