Captain Markus Matthes served with the Special Operations Division in Stadtallendorf (Hessen, GER). Already wounded by a bomb attack on 3 May 2011, he was traveling with comrades on 25 May 2011 (in the Chahar Darreh district, near the town of Kundus) when another road side bomb killed him 3 days before his 34th birthday.

Hauptmann Markus Matthes diente in der Division Spezielle Operationen in Stadtallendorf (Hessen, GER). Bereits durch einen Bombenangriff verletzt worden (3. May 2011) war er mit Kameraden am 25. May 2011 im Distrikt Chahar Darreh nahe Kundus/Afghanistan unterwegs, als eine weitere Straßenbombe ihn 3 Tage vor seinem 34. Geburtstag tâtete.
