David Bonesteele was a son of Jacob Bonesteel & Eleanore (Dickinson) Bonesteele. Born in Turin, Lewis Co., NY, he resided in Northampton, Summit Co., Ohio. He married 18 August 1855, in Akron, Ohio, Amanda Chase. He lived in Northampton in 1860, with wife Amanda, son Albert F., aged 3 and a daughter Angeline, 1.
David was 36 years old when he enlisted Sept 6,1864 as a private. On Sept 30, 1864 he was mustered into "H" Co., OH 177th Infantry.
He died of disease on Apr 19, 1865 on board the Hospital Transport ship Ben DeFord, enroute from Morehead City, NC. to New York, NY.
He was buried in Cypress Hill National Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY. as DANIEL Bolesteel. Gravesite 2576. (Civil War Data System)
