Lula Mae Washington, Shawnee, died Tuesday at a local nursing home. She was 78.

She was born July 20, 1922 in McLoud to Russell J. and Rebecca J. Haley Merrick. She lived in the Jacktown area as a child and attended White Rock School and Dale High School.

On September 9, 1949, she married George A. Washington in Waco, Texas.

Mrs. Washington was a homemaker and member of the First Christian Church, Rebekah Lodge, Berean Sunday school class and NARFE.

Survivors include her husband, George Washington, of the home, nephews and nieces including Bill and Anita Tisher, Jim and Shelly Kennedy and Larry Smith, all of Shawnee.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, sisters and a niece, Linda Smith.

Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. today at Rossville Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Dr. James Sill officiating.
