On May 31, 1951 the death angel removed from life’s activity, Dona (Taylor) Sutherland. She was born in the year 1880 and spent all her life in this community. On March 12 1902, she was united in marriage to George Lundy Sutherland to whom she was a loyal, capable and faithful companion until her death.

To this union were born and reared seven children, to-wit: Mrs. Bertie Sutherland Miller Owens, Mrs. Betty Rasnick, Sallie Stiltner, Fines Sutherland, Mrs. Gladys Compton, deceased, Mrs. Margie Dunlap and Kern Sutherland. There are 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, her living brothers and sisters are; Jack Taylor, Alex Taylor, Mrs. Dora Stickley, Mrs. Nannie Owens and Mrs. Prince Anderson.

She united with the Sulphur Spring Primitive Baptist Church in July 1928, and was baptized by Elder Wm. B. Sutherland.
During her life as a member of the church she manifested the fruits of the spirit in her upright walk and faithfulness in attending her meetings, not only to the church of her membership, but she attended other meeting of her faith as well. She was a woman of many noble qualities and the purity of her life will serve as a monument to her memory as an example for others to follow. Her home was noted for its hospitality extended to neighbors and those of her faith. And she often requested elders of the Primitive Baptist faith to hold service I her home.

Sleep on dear sister and wife until our Lord come in the clouds of heaven and calls you home to him.

Copied from the minutes of the one hundred fifty-third Annual Session of the Washington District Primitive Baptist Association held with Lick Creek Church Buchanan County, Virginia September 11, 12 and 13, 1964 for the Find a Grave Memorial of Dona Taylor Sutherland by Edgar A. Rice

I remember Dona Taylor Sutherland and her husband Lundy. They lived about a ¼ mile below us on Priest Fork Road Bee, Dickenson County, Virginia. We used to pick wild flowers and mom would take to her when she would go sit with her when she was very sick. All the children in the area called her Aunt Dona and her husband Uncle Lun. Rest in peace dear precious Aunt Dona. Edgar A. Rice
