PLEVNA MAN DIES SUNDAY
-WILLIAM B. APPLEGATE HAD LIVED HIS ENTIRE LIFE THERE
William B. Applegate, who had spent his entire life of 78 years and a few months in the Plevna vicinity, died Sunday at his home near Plevna. He had not been in very good health for several years, but was seriously ill four days.
Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church in Plevna Tuesday, Dec. 23, by the Rev. J.L. Shoemaker, and burial was in the Hickman Cemetery.
Mr. Applegate was the eldest son of William and Elizabeth Applegate and was born July 31, 1862, at the old Applegate farm just east of Plevna.
He was married Mar. 5, 1891 to Miss Lena Bauerrichter. This wife died in childbirth Dec. 2, 1891, leaving a son, Bryson, who lived to be only a few months old. Mr. Applegate was married again, Aug. 19, 1892 to Miss Nancy Ellen Perrigo. To them four sons were born, Arland, Floyd, Noble and Myrl.
Surviving are his faithful companion and son, Myrl, who is not married and has always lived with his parents; two married sons and their wives, Mr. & Mrs. Arland Applegate of near Steffenville, and Mr. & Mrs. Floyd Applegate, and their son, Leon; a half-sister, Mrs. Minnie Pearl Staggs of Shelbyville; a brother, J.C. Applegate; and a half-brother, L.R. Applegate of Jay Em, Wyoming. Two sisters, Mrs. Emma Hamilton and Mrs. Annie Prosser, and a brother, Robert, preceded him in death.
Mr. Applegate became a Christian in early life and was a faithful one, being a member of the Christian church until his death.
