Selma L. Baum was born on January 21, 1947, in Raymondville Texas to Garnett Bentley and Selma (Schultz) Barnett. Afflicted with Polio at a young age, Selma never let it stop her. After graduating from University of Houston with a teacher's degree, she learned she hated being a teacher. Went on to attend the University of Colorado to continue her education in engineering and found she didn't like that field. During the years of educating herself, she was employed as a social worker and found this was her forever career and finally retiring from DeKalb Co., Family Services as a supervisor. \

After a young divorce, Selma took on the challenge of being a single parent to 3 young children, teaching them to work hard and to never give up, can't was not a word she used. In 1983 she met the love of her life, John C. Baum and they married, completing the family.

The family settled in Gwinnett Co., Georgia, they remained for many years. After retirement, the death of her husband, and watching her grandchildren grow, Selma spoke to her daughters about wanting to "go home", the whole family relocated back to Texas, settling in Pittsburg in 2019. Where she enjoyed her final years at home being cared for by her two daughters.

Selma was the foundation of her family and laid strong values for her children and their children. Her determination and ability to persevere through obstacles will continue in her family.

Selma peacefully passed surrounded by her family and great grandson JC. Survivors are her children Michael, Michele, and Nicole (Jeff). Loved grand and great-grandchildren. Beloved Aunt Elizabeth Lively and numerous cousins and nieces.

Preceded in death are her parents, husband John, sister Pat Savage, and brother Bill Barnett.

Service to be announced at a later date.
