On the afternoon of August 15, 2023, Melvin V. Barrios of Maumee, Ohio passed away peacefully. Melvin was 93 years old.
Born April 22,1930 to Alphonse and Mazie Barrios in Pensacola, Florida, Melvin "Sonny" was the fifth of seven children. He served as an airplane mechanic in the Air Force during the Korean War, then met and married the love of his life, Nancy Ann Dunning on November 17, 1956. Together, they raised three children. Melvin worked as a Sheet Metal Worker for 40 years, building many structures in Ohio and Michigan.
Following retirement, he became a Certified Lay Minister in the United Church of Christ where he was an active member at his home church of Faith Community United U.C.C. Melvin was a sixty-year member of Sheet Metal Local 33, and a long- time member of Zenobia Shriners. He loved to garden, fish, golf and spending time with his family.
Melvin is preceded in death by his beloved wife Nancy, parents Alphonse and Mazie, his four sisters: Marion, Juanita (Neet), Betty (Nan), Gloria (Glo), and two brothers: Sebastian (Seb) and Alvin (Al). Melvin is survived by son, Mark (Michelle) Barrios and daughters Heidi (Ron) Denlinger and Heather Speck. He leaves an amazing love and legacy to his 11 Grandchildren, 14 Great-Grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
Visitation will be held at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, on Monday, August 21st from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial with Air Force Military Honors will take place at Toledo Memorial Park, Sylvania, Ohio.
