Austin Claudell Bagwell passed away on August 15, 2023. He was born November 12, 1930, to Claud Herbert Bagwell and Nancy Patience Austin Bagwell in Bradshaw, TX. He graduated from Rotan High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant from January 1950 to December 1953 and was stationed in Bermuda much of that time. When he returned to the U.S., he attended LeTourneau University in Longview, TX.

Austin married Empress Ann Hicks on December 20, 1955, and they celebrated their 50th anniversary before she passed away on June 13, 2006. They established their home in San Antonio in 1956 and raised 4 children. Austin (or A.C. as co-workers called him) worked for IBM as a customer engineer for more than 35 years, retiring on December 31, 1991. He was an active member at First Baptist Church running the sound booth, serving as a deacon, and teaching 6th grade boys Sunday School. Since 1987 he continued serving the Lord as a member of Alamo City Christian Fellowship.

Austin was preceded in death by one son Elton Bagwell and three sisters - Lois Marie Lambert, Dorothy Nell Scifres, and Alma Sue Bagwell. He is survived by sons Kerry Bagwell and wife Debbie, Craig Bagwell and wife Karen; daughters Lori Cuellar and Jamie Bagwell; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren – Chad Pearson and wife Ruth; Heather Moore and husband Donavan and their children Kiana, Isaiah, Elijah and Micah; Brittany Bagwell; Ethan Bagwell; Travis Bagwell and wife Martha and their daughter Charlie; Lindsay Juarez and her husband Marco and their children Caleb, Briella, Levi, Madelyn, and Joshua; Nicholas Bagwell; Caitlin Salazar and her husband Corderro and their son Cade; Jessica Bagwell; Katherine Bagwell; Daniel Bagwell; Nathaniel Cuellar and his children Olivia and Graham; Benjamin Cuellar and his wife Hailey. He is also survived by brothers-in-law/sisters-in-law Doyle Lambert, Ila Goodrum, Carol Howard, Leila and Larry Smith, George and Sherry Hicks, and Thomas and Judy Hicks.

He will be remembered as a man who loved the Lord Jesus, a devoted husband, a supportive and dependable dad, and a caring grandpa.

Visitation 4 – 6 pm Saturday September 2 and Funeral service 3 pm Sunday September 3 at Sunset Funeral Home (1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, TX).

Graveside service 11:30 am Tuesday September 5 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
