Patricia Johnston, 97, peacefully passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023 in Heron Point Retirement Community in Chestertown, Maryland.
She was born on October 17, 1925 in Greensburg, the daughter of the late William Ralph and Isabelle (Boettner) Johnston.
Pat attended Shaw High School in East Cleveland, Ohio and continued her education at Germantown Hospital Nursing School alongside Isabelle.
She worked as a Private duty Nurse.
Pat enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1959. While serving in the Navy, she traveled throughout the United States and world working on bases as far away as Naples, Italy and Japan.
After returning to the U.S., she entered the U.S. Naval Reserves and continued her nursing career at a Veterans Affairs Hospital in the Miami, Florida area where she eventually retired.
In 2008, Pat moved North to be closer to Isabelle and relocated to Lancaster and then later resettled in Chestertown, Maryland.
Her true passion in life was golfing and her dogs. She was an avid and competitive golfer - playing up to thirty-six holes daily. And, when she wasn't golfing, she had two beloved pets: Buck (Saint Bernard) and DeDe (French Poodle). She would share stories of dogs with all who loved her.
At Heron Point, Pat was affectionately known as PJ and always carried dog treats to share with her four-legged friends on her daily walks. While back East, PJ enjoyed the company of her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Identical Twin: Isabelle Boone and Jayne Allen.
Pat is survived by her nieces: Linda (Jim) McCullough of Port Angeles, Washington and Sandy (Roger) Banko of Preston, Maryland, Mary Beth (Gary) Zaremski of Oakville, Connecticut, and Patricia (Paul) Selsky (Paul) of Underhill, Vermont; her nephews: Steven (Mary) Allen of Springfield, Massachusetts, Mark (Wendy) Allen of St. Charles, Illinois, and Jeffrey (Maryellen) Allen of Narragansett, Rhode Island; and, her grand dogs: Hannah, Keta, Cooper, and Juno.
Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 01:00 PM.
