Alva Lyional "Smokey" Clark
February 18, 1941 - June 13, 2023

Alva Lyional "Smokey" Clark, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by family June 13, 2023. He was born February 18, 1941 in Neola, Utah to Tain Clark and Darlene Spencer. He married Cleora Mae Atwood, the Love of His Life, on May 21,1968 in Rawlins, Wyoming, with whom he has joyfully been reunited after 25 years of mourning.

Primarily, he lived and was raised in Carbon County. He graduated from Carbon High School, class of 1960. Smokey served in the US Army during the Vietnam war from 1965 to 1967. He performed duties in the infantry as a tunnel rat, attaining the rank of sergeant E5. He held multiple positions in various fields. Some of his most beloved were being a cowboy in Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico. In the rodeo circuit Smoke was known for the bareback and bull riding events, winning the Western Slope Rodeo Association Championship of 1964.

He held various positions in the oilfield and had the opportunity to work in several locations across the world including Norway, Scotland, Spain, South Korea, and New Zealand. His true passion in life was working The Clark Brothers Ranch with his family. He especially loved spending time with his grandkids. He was a very active, hard-working man until an industrial accident left him with more than three decades of pain and disability. Despite these challenges he rarely complained. Smokey was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was sealed to his sweetheart on February 20, 1999.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cleora; his sweet granddaughter, ShyAnn; sisters Betti and Bob; brother, Chub; parents, Tain and Darlene, and many others. He is survived by children: Bobbi (Brian) Justice, Kimberli (Chad) Tatton, LeeOra (Dean) LaCotta, Laird (Katy) Clark, 14 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren (and one on the way). He is also survived by siblings: Muggs (Valynda), Vera (sister-in-law), Connie (Kent) Norton, Shirlee (Larry) Lopan.
