Dwight Merrell Andrews, born Oct 12, 1923 in Franklin County, Georgia, was the fifth child and the fourth son born to Thomas Warn Andrews (1880 – 1951)and Nancy Susan Williams (1878 – 1968).

The 1930 census found the 7 year old Dwight Andrews in Broad River District 1473, Stephens County, Georgia. He lived with his parents and three siblings on the farm his father worked. That farm was located on the Toccoa and Currahee Rd. The census enumerated the dwelling as #82 and the family as #85. The farm was #85 of the farm schedule. The household consisted of 50 year old Tom W Andrews as Head, his 50 year old wife Nancy, 22 year old son Clyde, 17 year old daughter Inez, 14 year old T Broughton, and 7 year old D Merrell. The two younger children had attended school at sometime since Sep 1929 and all members of the household except for D Merrell were able to read and write. Tom, Nancy and the four children were all born in Georgia. Occupations listed were for Tom as Farmer and Clyde as Furniture Factory Laborer.

Dwight Merrell Andrews served in the US Navy during WW II. Following his discharge from the Navy, he attended Piedmont College in nearby Demorest, Habersham County, Georgia. He received his Degree in Elementary Education in 1952. Sometime later he received an Advanced Degree from the University of Georgia, in Athens, Clarke County, Georgia. He worked as an Art Instructor in the Stephens County Public Schools and in the surrounding counties, and was owner and operator of Southern Signs, Andrews Sign and Outsider Gallery.

He continued to live in the Toccoa, Stephens County area with his family until the time of his death at age 63. He died while in the Stephens County Hospital on 21 Jul 1986. He is buried in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Toccoa, Stephens County, Georgia. He was survived by his wife, son, two daughters, one brother, three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
