Mrs. Emma Rives, 63, sister of Mrs. Al Rands of the Keller community, near Chesterfield, died Wednesday at her home in Alton. She had been in failing health for several months, caused by worry and loss of one son, Pvt. Lynn Rives, who was reported missing in action in the European theater recently, and another son, PFC. Glen Rives, twin of Lynn, who is with the army air forces in India.

Decedent was born northwest of Chesterfield in the Fayette neighborhood, Dec. 18, 1880. The family resided in Hettick before removing to Alton

Surviving are three daughters, five sons, three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday in Alton. Burial was in Asbury cemetery near Fayette

*** Her sons, Lynn and Glenn, were on the same transport ship, the HMT Rohna, when it was hit by a German guided missile on 26 Novemeber 1943. Lynn was never found and in June 1944 a letter was received officially stating Lynn was KIA.
Sadly grandma was already gone. Glenn was sworn to secrecy and rarely even spoke of this tragic experience that took his twin brother. The documents detailing this were sealed by the government for 50 years.
