Sioux Falls - Millicent "Millie" Larson, age 100, of Dow Rummel Village, died February 23, 2008. She was born on October 11, 1907, in Chippewa Falls, WI to John and Emma Foster. Millie graduated from Eau Claire State Teacher's College and taught school before and after her 1930 marriage in Chippewa Falls to Lawrence Larson. Millie loved teaching, reading and giving book reviews, but her first priority was always the welfare of her family. The family moved to Sioux Falls in 1945, where Mr. Larson was an officer in the National Bank of South Dakota, now US Bank. Larry died in 1978.
Millie was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder and was active in women's groups. She was a member of Chapter BC P.E.O. and a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her twin brother, Mark, who died in infancy, her sons, Bob and David and her sister, Ethel Sukopp.
Millie is survived by five grandchildren, Mark, of Eden Prairie, MN, John, of McKinney, TX, Sheila (Jon) Casteel, Tom (Winnie) and Dan (Kim), all of California; six great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Lolita "Lee"; and close friend, Bette Theobald.
The family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, 13th & Main Ave. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Woodlawn Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church or The Braille and Talking Book Library, Pierre, SD.
