Weimer, Bernard Lee
Birth: 1927-08-19 in Charlotte Hall, Maryland
Residence: Frostburg, Maryland
Death: Friday, March 07, 2008
Laid to Rest: Tuesday, March 11, 2008 in the St. Mary's Bryantown Church Cemetery

Bernard Lee Weimer, 80 of Charlotte Hall, MD died on March 7, 2008.

Born August 19, 1927 in Frostburg, MD, he was the son of the late George C. and Rosa F. Warnick Weimer.

Mr. Weimer grew up on his family's farm on the Maryland border in Pennsylvania. He graduated from Beale High School in 1945 and joined the U.S. Army; he was stationed at Fort Meade, MD. In 1947 he married Virginia Lee Kienhofer in Cumberland, MD. They have been happily married for 60 years. After the Army he began commuting to the DC/Maryland area from Western, MD for carpentry work to return on weekends to Frostburg. His father George and himself worked on building Cottage Homes and eventually moved to Tacoma Park, Md.

In 1953 he entered the Maryland State Police Academy in Pikesville and graduated a as Trooper in 1954 and was assigned to the new Barracks H in Waldorf, MD. He moved his family to Southern Maryland and began his career in Law Enforcement. Major Weimer received many awards and accommodations through out his MSP career. He was well liked and regarded with high esteem by his fellow officers and commanders; he became a detective and was trained in Polygraph Science. He was a man of great talent and could fix anything and would often be called in the middle of the night for emergencies and to fix the boiler or some mechanical problem at the barracks. He loved tinkering with engines, inventing tools to help do things, once he built a leaf vacuum to clean the leaves from the yard, it worked like a charm and was much better than the Blowers of today.

Mr. Weimer rose through the ranks at the MSP and retired in 1987 at the rank of Major. After retirement he started a second career and returned to carpentry, he built gazebos for Joseph Kurtz and later went to work for Cords Cabinetry. He enjoyed keeping busy and spent hours tinkering in his workshop. Whatever you needed made or fixed or invented he was the master.

He loved to travel, some favorites were both US coasts (East & West), Canada, Nova Scotia, Florida, California, LasVegas, Alaska, Idaho, Grand Canyon Yosemite Park, these trips included his children and often grandchildren. He loved the water, fished and sunned on the beaches, hunted in his early years, loved boating, exploring the local rivers, but mostly loved tinkering with the engine.

He also enjoyed watching Fox Cable News and old cowboy movies. But above all he loved his family. Bernie and Ginny have four children: Sandy Bridgett (Charles), Bernie G. Weimer, (Cindy), Patti Wright and Gina Pimentel, (Bob): 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

The Family will receive friends on Monday, March 10, 2008 for a Life Celebration from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm in the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., Charlotte Hall, MD, where prayers will be recited at 7:30pm.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bryantown, MD. Interment church cemetery.

Arrangements provided by Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home.
