Joan Brehm Goutierez, age 91, passed away peacefully at home on November 28, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Joan was born on March 12, 1931, in New Orleans and resided in Metairie since 1960.

She attended Mater Delarosa Catholic School and graduated from Rabouin High School.

Joan worked for over 40 years at J.C. Penney's Lakeside where she made many friends and memories and retired in 2005.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Millard Frank Brehm and Theresa Cantavespri Brehm; her husband of 38 years, Calvin A. Goutierez, Sr.; her daughter, Gayle Goutierez-Martens; and son-in-law, Louis "Buzzy" Martens.

Joan is survived by her son, Millard Goutierez (Doodie); her daughter, Terry Goutierez Hidding; her son, Calvin Goutierez, Jr. (Holly); her grandchildren, Jennifer Pearson (Troy), Gabrielle Goutierez and Gavin Goutierez; her great grandchildren, Brady Pearson and Benjamin Pearson; and sister, Janet Brehm Zimmerman.

Joan was a gracious and caring New Orleans lady who always smiled and brightened everyone's day. She always enjoyed a good time attending many Jazz Fests, French Quarter Fests, Mardi Gras, and Mothers' Days at Audubon Zoo. She loved to cook, line dance, swim, watch the Saints, LSU and Tulane football on TV, and time spent with her family and friends. Joan always enjoyed family trips to the beach in Destin, the theme parks in Orlando, cruises, and even the Virgin Islands and New York City.

She will be loved and missed dearly by her loving family and all who were blessed to know her.

Joan was fortunate to be able to spend her final years at home due to the love and care given by her daughter, Terry Hidding. In addition, special thanks to Claudia at Home Instead, Nurses Dawn and Debbie at Notre Dame Home Health, and Nurses Angelis and Kristin at Hospice Associates of New Orleans.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Saturday, December 17, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by a Mass at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 N. Causeway Blvd., Metairie, LA 70001.
