Mr. Whitley died at home, was a fire inspector for the Insurance Services Organization, Jersey City, for more than 40 years before retiring in the early 1970s.
He was a member of the Cornerstone Tyrian Masons Lodge 229, Linden, where he celebrated his 50th anniversary as a master mason. He was also a member of the Choir Group at the Wilson Memorial Union Church and the Watchung Senior Citizens Group.
Born in Jersey City, he lived in Westfield before moving to Watchung many years ago.
Surviving are Florine, his wife of 63 years; a son, Keith; daughter, Deborah Yock; brother, Warren; sister, Violet Hauswald; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
