He retired in February 1993 after more than 30 years of employment at American Home Foods, Inc., Milton.
He was a member of Saint Paul's United Church of Christ, West Milton; the men's Bible class of the church Sunday school; served as superintendent of the Sunday school for more than 15 years; and was the co-superintendent of the Sunday school until he died. He served on many church committees.
A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he enlisted in the US Army in November 1952 and served in the infantry with HQ Company, 3rd Battalion in Japan. He was honorably discharged as a corporal in October 1954. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Presidential Unit Citation; United Nations Service Medal; and the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children: Cathy Lou Haus, Mechanicsburg; and Mark Wayne Aikey, Lewisburg RD3. Also surviving are one granddaughter and one great-grandson.
He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Howard W. Aikey, Mifflinburg RD2; Bonnie E. Schell, Tunkhannock; Edna E. Oberdorf, Mifflinburg RD2; Clarence R. Aikey, Nashville, TN; Rachael L. Lohr, Mifflinburg RD2; Amelia N. Hanselman, Victor, NY; Mervin E. Aikey, Sara E. Oberdorf, Vera L. Kreisher, Anna M. Mook, and Nancy V. Erb, all of Mifflinburg RD2.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Galen Leroy Aikey, who died March 1, 1995.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Church Cemetery, West Buffalo Township, Union County.
