Jessie Marion "Jess" Stone, 66 years, 10 months and 9 days of age, of Somerset, Kentucky, departed this life around 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29th, 1994 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky following a short illness.

Jess was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky on Friday, May 20th, 1927, son of the late Cyrus "Lasses" and Mary Nancy Ziglar Stone. Jess was a self-employed plumber and electrician, a Private First Class, United States Army, Veteran of World War II, and a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Jess was very well known in Pulaski County and the surrounding counties, and was a friend to all who knew him. He was never to busy to take time to stop and talk to people.

On Saturday, February 19th, 1994, Jess and his wife Faye were coming home from an auction in Woodstock, Kentucky when someone randomly shot at their car hitting Faye's leg and Jess in the hand. They were both treated at the ER in Somerset and released. A Doctor gave him a prescription for antibiotics and told him If it got red streaks to take the antibiotics "Jess was stubborn" and never had the prescription filled, he never noticed any red streaks, but on Sunday, March 27th, he was not acting like himself. He refused to go back to the ER in Somerset to be checked out. On Monday, March 28th, Jess called all his brothers and talked to them for about an hour each. Later on that day his family convinced him to go the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, Jess had a heart attack around 7:00 p.m. that night and died the next morning. An autopsy confirmed that he had and heart attack but was also septic at the time of his death.

Jess was survived by his loving wife, Selma "Faye" Hall Stone, whom he married on Wednesday, October 10th, 1951 in Science Hill, Kentucky; one son, Jessie Ray (and Peggy) Stone; one daughter, Mary Jean (and Jeff) Spradlin; four brothers, Herbert M. (and Anna Mae) Stone, James E. (and Joan) Stone, Kenneth (and Janet) Stone, and Richard (and Kathy) Cundiff; two grandchildren, Dennis Thomas Spradlin and Billy Joe Stone; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cyrus Stone, who departed this life on February 3rd, 1965 and Mary Stone, who departed this life on December 11th, 1946; an infant son who was born into eternal life on on March 21st, 1952; and one sister, Evelyn Foster, who departed this life on January 21st, 1988.

Visitations were held after 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31st, 1994 at the Pulaski Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 1st, 1994 in the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. David Bullock officiating.

Musical selection was: Daddys Hands, River of Time, and Stoll over Heaven.

Jessie's pallbearers were: Dennis Spradlin, Billy Stone, Donald Foster, Joseph Stone, Jackie King, Larry Ping, and Terry Ping.

Burial followed in the Tanner Cemetery with military services conducted by the American Legion Post No#38.

Hundreds of people attended Jessie's services to mourn his passing.
