Ellen Allen Banks
October 2, 1940 - July 7, 2023

Ellen Allen Banks, age 82, of the Banks Creek Community, went Home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 7th, 2023 at The Greens at Spruce Pine.

A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Dorothy Scott Allen.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Banks, who passed away in 2007; son-in-law, Albert Woodby, who passed in 2013; infant great-grandson, Jadenia Lee Woodby; sisters: Margie Burleson, Bernice Davis, Evelyn Edwards, Jewel Ledford and Louise Allen; infant sister, Alice Allen and brothers: Braskie Allen, Dallas Allen, Roy Allen and Larry Edwards.

Ellen worked for 30 years in sewing manufacturing and 15 years in healthcare, of which she was the Assistant Activities Director for 10 years until her retirement from the Yancey Nursing Center. She was a former member of Banks Creek Union Church but later in life joined Peterson's Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. Ellen loved to travel, crochet, collect bells, go to the gym and gardening but if asked, her greatest loves were God, her grandchildren and her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Marilyn Banks Woodby of Green Mountain and Sherry Banks Warren (Danny) of Candler; grandsons: Josh Warren (Morgan) and Brian Warren (Whitney) all of Candler, Anthony Woodby (Nancy) of Green Mountain, Albert Allen Woodby of Asheville and Jonathan Woodby of Burnsville; great-grandson, Oliver William Cy Woodby; great-granddaughters: Starla Brianna Woodby, Harper Warren and Emma and Jordan Gschlecht; brother-in-law, Rev. Dale Banks (Clara) of the Banks Creek Community and loving caregivers: Lisa Autrey and Pam Higgins. Several nieces, nephews, other extended family, as well as her faith family at Peterson's Chapel also survive.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Brother Denny Wilson and Brother Terry Jones will officiate. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Allen, Jonathan, Anthony and Cy Woodby and Josh and Brian Warren.

Burial will follow the services in the Everett Banks Family Cemetery.

Flowers are appreciated, or memorial donations may be made to Feed-A-Child Yancey County at 131 East Main Street, Ste C, Burnsville, NC or to the Gideons International at P. O. Box 264, Burnsville, NC 28714.
