Linda E. Newcity Kirby passed peacefully in her sleep on September 4, 2022.

She was born on October 8, 1944 in Jacksonville, Florida, the daughter of the late Thomas and Elsie Newcity. She grew up with her older brother and two younger sisters in Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and went to David Lipscomb College in Nashville, Tennessee. At Lipscomb, she met her future husband, Floyd Kirby. They were married in Jacksonville on August 29, 1964. Soon they moved to Greensboro, NC, where Linda worked for Southern Bell. Soon they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Sue Ann and son, Alan. A job transfer for Floyd moved the family to North Charleston, SC, where they lived for seven years. During that time Linda taught piano students, helped with Palmetto Christian School, Palmetto Bible Camp, and was an active member of the North Charleston Church of Christ. Another transfer moved the family to Wilmington, NC in 1979. Floyd and Linda remained here until her passing. During these 43 years, Linda was an active member of the Pine Valley Church of Christ. She taught preschool music, as well as running a piano studio, and she was active in her neighborhood garden club, and Agape of NC. In her later years, she also helped her neighbor with animal rescues.

Linda was always focused on her and her husband's families. Many trips were made with siblings and spouses. They enjoyed each other's company and visited back and forth between states to stay in contact through the years.

Linda was preceded in death by her sisters, Karen McWilliams and Janice Compton.
