Alexander Hoots a veteran of the Civil war and a resident of Oakley for the last 33 years died at his home Saturday following a stroke of apoplexy which he suffered last Monday.

He was born in Tennessee, Jan. 5, 1840. He moved to Illinois with his parents when 2 years of age and has resided in this county the greater part of the time since. When the Civil war broke out he enlisted in the Union army as a member of the One Hundred and sixteenth Illinois Infantry. During his residence in Oakley had has become widely know. He was 67 years of age.

Surviving him are six children, five sons and one daughter, Edgar, Clarence, Robert and Sherman Hoots of Oakley, Frank of Decatur and Mrs. J. S. Pobst of Maroa. He also leaves four brothers and five sisters. They are James of Decatur, Peter of Keokuk, Ia, William of Cuba, Mo, Solomen of Winchester, Ill. and Mrs. Mary Likins, Mrs. Jane Cross and Mrs. Ida Blickendeffer, all of Cerro Gordo, Mrs. Levi Starnes, Fort Scott, Ks, and Mrs. Sarah Day of Winchester, six grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be today from the United Brethren church in Oakley. Interment will be in the Cross cemetery.
