Obituary: Matthias Jorsch, a notorious character of our city, was found dead in his room yesterday. All signs indicate that he died several days ago. Jorsch lived apart from his family, but a son had come to his room on Wed. to visit his father and found the body. He probably died of a heart attack and a coroner's jury is being convened to determine the cause of his death.

From the German language "Der Nord Westen", 17 Nov. 1887:
Death of Mrs. Katharine Jorsch on Thurs., here in Manitowoc. She was the
daughter of Mr. A. Bertler "Her husband, once a fine workman, gave himself
over to drink and in his drunkenness not only neglected to feed his family,
but abused them." The deceased left nine children of which the eldest is 17
and the youngest is still very small.
(Note: She is buried with the Bertler family)
