Mary (Perkins) Burnham was the 6th child (of 7) of Corp. Jacob Perkins (1646-1719) and his first wife Sarah (Wainright) Perkins (1650-1688). Mary's mother Sarah died when she was just two and a half years old. Her father Jacob then remarried to Sarah Kinsman with whom he had 7 more children.

Mary became the first wife of Captain Jonathan Burnham (1685-1773) on March 17, 1710 in Ipswich, Massachusetts. This marriage would produce 5 children before Mary's premature death. Husband/widower Jonathan Burnham would remarry to Martha Foster (1703-1790) with whom he would have 5 more children.

The five children from Mary's marriage to Captain Jonathan Burnham include the following:

- Jonathan Burnham, Jr. (1716-1802) who participated in the American Revolution. Jonathan, Jr. married Elizabeth Proctor on April 27, 1737 with whom he had 12 children.
- Mary Burnham Smith (1718-1816). Lived to be 97 years old. She married Job Smith (1718-1787) on October 11, 1741, but the marriage would remain childless.
- Francis Burnham (1721-1808) m. Sarah Eveleth (1733-1802) on November 25, 1749. This marriage would produce 2 children.
- Eunice Burnham Martin (1726-1818). She would only be 2 years old when her mother Mary died. She would marry George Martin (1722-1779) on October 22, 1745 with whom she had 6 children.
- Lucy Burnham (1727-bef. 1734) would be born only a year before her mother's premature death. Lucy would die in early childhood.
