Ken Ribble Baxter, 75, of Shamrock, Texas, passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2023. He was born December 7, 1947, to Ethelyne Ribble Baxter and Robert Lee Baxter, Jr. He was a lifelong resident of Collingsworth County and Wheeler County.
Ken was a graduate of Samnorwood High School and West Texas A&M University where he earned a B.S. in Education with an emphasis in Special Education and a M.Ed. in Counseling with a minor in Psychology as well as an educational diagnostician certification. He served in education for over 30 years. Upon retirement, Ken worked in real estate.
Ken was a member of the Board of Trustees at The University of the South – Sewanee, Tennessee. He was the Eastern Panhandle representative to Amarillo Chamber of Commerce Golden Nail Award and served on the Harrington Cancer Center Circle of Friends Board of Directors. He was a member of the Wheeler County Historical Commission and the Wheeler County Tax Appraisal Board. He served as Senior Warden at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Janis Ruth Holmes Baxter, and his brother, Bob Baxter.
Ken is survived by his wife Rosemary Baxter, his children, Annabelle Baxter of Dallas, Hugh Baxter of Atlanta, Georgia, Paige Buckingham and husband Bobby of Rockwall, Murphy Parks and wife Amanda of Ft. Worth. Surviving grandchildren are Ben Parks, Olivia Parks, Julia Buckingham, Billie Buckingham, and one great grandchild, Sawyer Buckingham.
Graveside services will be held in Shamrock Cemetery Monday, June 26, 2023, at 2:00 PM officiated by Rev. Jim Aveni.
Honorary Pallbearers are Hugh D. Baxter, Murphy H. Parks, Benjamin H. Parks, Bobby Dale Buckingham, Jr., Michael B. McKinney, Rev. Canon William D. Nix, Dr. Mike Smith, S.S. Buddy Stephens, Charles F. White, and Dr. Randall Williams.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church of Shamrock or to any favorite charity.
