Robert L. (Bob) Baxter, III, 48, of Shamrock died about 9 p.m. Saturday night, September 29, in Shamrock General Hospital following a one-pickup accident that occurred in Shamrock. His death is attributed to a heart attack which it is believed he suffered while driving in the north part of town.
Mr. Baxter was a member of one of the first families to settle in the area and to be associated with the ranching industry in the north part of Collingsworth County. He was Rocking Chair Ranch foreman for many years. R.L. Baxter, Jr. continued in the family's tradition of farming and ranching. Bob Baxter was also dealer for Moorman Feed Co.
Mr. Baxter was born August 24, 1936 in Shamrock, the son of Mrs. Ethelyne Baxter and the late R.L. Baxter. He grew up on the family ranch at Dozier and graduated from Samnorwood High School in 1954. He received his degree from the School of Agriculture, Texas Tech University, where he majored in agricultural education. He taught vocational agriculture in high schools at Hale Center, Borger, Shamrock and Clarendon.
He was married to LaVerne Vermillion Dec. 5, 1959 in Shamrock. Mr. Baxter was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Surviving Mr. Baxter are his wife; a daughter, Becky Baxter; a son, James Baxter of Lubbock; his mother, Mrs. Ethelyne Baxter of Shamrock; and one brother, Ken Baxter of Shamrock.
