Hilbert Lee Miller was born in Browntown, VA the son of Charles T. Miller and Lula Manuel Miller on 2 Aug 1909.

He married Hazel Elizabeth Wines, daughter of Wade Hamilton Wines and Dora Lee Riley Wines of Front Royal, VA on 26 Jun 1935.

Their marriage was blessed with two sons:

1. Larry Carper Miller 21 Feb 1937 - 19 Dec 1999
2. Warren Lee Miller 22 Jan 1941 - 17 Feb 2007

Hilbert worked for Belle Meade Distilleries near Linden and lived in Dismal Hollow near Linden, VA and then built a home nearby where his youngest son, Warren was born. In about 1952, he moved his young family from the rural area of Warren County into Front Royal so his youngest son could play Little League baseball by living close enough to the Little League Park that he could walk. Not only did Warren play on one of the Little League teams, but he became a contributing member of the 1953 Front Royal Little League World Series Team that placed third in the World at Williamsport, PA in the summer of 1953.

Hilbert later worked for American Viscose Corporation until he was forced to take early retirement due to asbestosis of the lungs caused by years of using absbestos in his job as pipefitter for American Viscose.

Even with his disability, he thoroughly enjoyed his remaining years focusing on his two young granddaughters, whom he adored - doting on and cherishing each moment he had to spend with them.

Hilbert Miller lived a simple life, but he made a big impact on the life of his granddaughter, Mary. Everyday he would spend time helping and challenging her with her math homework and encouraging her to excel. He had a natural gift for math and many an evening was spent working math problems. She absolutely cherished the time he spent with her thus causing her to develop a love for math because of his influence and as a result she became a math teacher. Sadly, his youngest granddaughter was only 10 months old when he passed away when he was only 72 years and 24 days old, but even so his legacy lives on through these devoted grandchildren.
