Prominent Orland Citizen Succumbs
ORLAND- Reeve Henry Barceloux, 61, prominent local businessman and rancher, was felled by a heart attack on Wednesday while at work in his orchard in the Loam Ridge district, southeast of Orland. The body was found a short time later by one of his ranch employees and was brought to the F.D. Sweet & Son mortuary here, which is in charge of the services.
Rosary services will be held at the Sweet Chapel at 8 p.m. Friday evening. The requiem mass will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the St. Dominic's Catholic Church in Orland to be followed by burial in the Catholic Cemetery here.
Reeve Barceloux was born in Orland May 30, 1912, and had spent his entire lifetime in the community except for time away from home while attending college. He graduated from the local elementary and high schools and was a member of the Orland High School's Class of 1931, later attending the University of Santa Clara. He was an outstanding athlete in high school, particularly in football and also played football at Santa Clara.
He started his business career in Orland in company with his brothers, operating two service stations. Later they found the Barceloux Brothers Auto supply, which continues with stores in Orland and Willows and is one of the county's leading business enterprises.
He later purchased the orchards in the Loam Ridge area, where the family home is located.
He became one of the community's prominent orange and olive growers and one of the leading advocates of construction of the Valley Canal Project, now being built. His work for this development started over 20 years ago and he lived to see the canal under construction in the Orland area and promising a more adequate water supply for ranches in the coming few years.
He was vice president of the Orland-Artois Water District, which will serve the local area. He was also vice-president of the Orland Orange Growers Association, director of the Orland Olive Growers Association, member of the Sacramento Valley Citrus Exchange, Council of California Growers, and California Farm Bureau, among other ranch-related activities. He also served on the Glenn County Juvenile Justice Commission, was a member of the Chico Lodge of Elks and an active member of St Dominic's Catholic Church. He also held membership in the University of Santa Clara Alumni Association.
His marriage to the former Edith Allen took place in 1941. She and their two sons, Donald a senior in UCLA Medical school, and Peter, a sophomore in the University of California at Davis, survive him. There are also four surviving brothers, Clement A, Middletown, Lake County; Leo T. and Melvin G., both of Orland, and Edgar of Willows.

His paternal grandparents the Pierre Barcelouxs, who came from Quebec, Canada, were pioneer ranchers west of Willows, and his maternal grandparents, the Joseph Mullers, from France and Alsace Lorriane, were prominent in the early day business life of Willlows. Reeve Barceloux's father, George A. Barceloux, was for many years president of the Bank of Orland, which later was merged with what is now Bank of America.

In 1937 in partnership with three brothers he organized two retail auto parts stores which still operate under the Barceloux name.
He was married in 1941 to the former Edith Allen of Orland.
Mr. Barceloux was a director and vice-president of Orland Orange Growers Association, vice-president of the Orland-Artois Water District and supporter of the Tehama-Colusa Canal since 1940. He was a member of the Glenn County Juvenile Justice Council, Chico Elks Club, California Farm Bureau and many allied organizations. He was an active member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church.
In addition to his widow he is survived by two sons, Donald, senior medical student at UCLA, and Peter, a sophomore at the University of California at Davis; four brothers, Clement of Littleton, Melvin and Leo of Orland, and Edgar of Willows.
