Alan Emery Obituary

Alan Emery San Angelo - Alan Neil Emery passed away on February 25, 2023, at home in San Angelo, TX. He was born on October 11, 1944, in Lubbock, TX.

"Neil", Daddy, Papa, is survived by his loving wife of 8 years Donna Patton Clanton Emery; his daughter Kimberly Emery Lozano and husband Eddie of Ozona; his brother Ted Emery and wife Debbie of Idalou; 3 grandchildren, Kamryn Lee Lozano of Weatherford, Laurissa Kay Lozano Garza and husband Michael of Ozona, and Alan Emery Lozano and wife Shelby of Ozona; 5 great grandchildren Drew Ezra Garza, Brystol Faith Garza, Kierlyn Emeris Lozano, Kane Rhett Lozano, and Korlee Nova Lozano; nephews Don Campbell and wife RuthAnn of Sweetwater, Cam Campbell and wife Erika of Sonora, Curry Campbell and wife Bonnie Lou of Sonora; Coby Emery and wife Rhanda of Bovina, Clint Emery and wife Leslianne of Texarkana, AR,, John Emery of Amarillo; Tim Emery of Montgomery, TX, and niece Stacy Emery of Montgomery, TX; his wife Donna's 2 sons and 6 grandchildren and all their spouses.

He was preceded in death by his only son Alan Neil Emery, Jr, in 1981, his wife of 53 years, Josephine Kay Curry Emery in 2014, his parents Lee and Laura Emery, and 2 brothers, Tom in 1981 & Danny in 2000.

Neil was raised on a cotton farm near Idalou, TX. While working the fields as a young boy, he would always stare up at the sky daydreaming of becoming a pilot of an airplane one day. Early in his adult life, Neil got his pilot license and became an instructor pilot, then became the Corporate Pilot for Shurgro Irrigation Company in Lubbock, TX. Later, he went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic Controller, where he retired at the Lubbock Facility in 1995. After Retirement, he, his wife Kay, and his daughters' family moved to Terrell County, TX, and went into the sheep ranching business for 10 years, and then finally moved to San Angelo, TX, in 2006.

Papa loved living in the desert of West Texas with the rocks, cacti, cedar, mesquite, hills, and canyons, just West of the Pecos River. His awesome bonfires and frequent firepit gatherings were some of our greatest memories. He loved to visit the mountains in New Mexico, enjoyed the horse races, loved challenging his mind with puzzles, enjoyed old movies, was a total history buff, and he especially enjoyed a round of (his all-time favorite) Chivas Regal Scotch.

Daddy was a great man of honor and integrity. He never quit reminding us of the absolute importance of striving to live our own lives with honor and integrity. Daddy would say, "No one is perfect, especially not me, but with each lesson learned, I promise you will become the absolute greatest person you could possibly be. In the end, you will know and feel the greatest love in your heart and be able to rest with great pride and dignity. BUT, only YOU can make that happen."

Throughout his 78 years of life, Neil earned a well-deserved nickname/title known by his family, best friends, and all others that knew and loved him dearly, as "The Man, The Myth, The Legend!" and That says it all, folks.

A graveside celebration of Neil's life will be held March 18, 2023, 3:30 pm at the Idalou Cemetery in Idalou, TX.
