Alfred Peter Salvati, 72, of 609 Barnhart St., died at 9:10 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church. Msgr. John Prendergast, pastor of the church, will be the celebrant. The Resurrection Choir, under the direction of Paul Rosenbaum, organist, will sing several songs including "How Great Thou Art," "On Eagles Wings" and "Amazing Grace." Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery with full military rites by Streator Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1492 and Streator American Legion Leslie G. Woods Post #217 including honor guard, firing squad, taps and flag folding. Bagpiper Ted Kerrn will play "Danny Boy," "Anchors Away" and "Wearing of the Green" at the ceremony.

Pallbearers will be sons: Daniel and David Salvati; son-in-law: Michael Tirella; nephews: Jeff and Ron Plesko; and brother-in-law: Ronald Plesko Sr.

There will be no visitation. Hagi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born January 21, 1932 in Streator, a son of Fred and Agnes (McGuire) Salvati. He married Doris Whalen on December 31, 1986 in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are sons: Daniel (Marla) Salvati of Fairview Heights and David (Donna) Salvati of Furlong, Pennsylvania; a daughter: Mary Kay (Michael) Tirella of Peoria, Arizona; a stepson: Ronald (Kathy) Surrock of Frederick, Maryland; eight grandchildren; a sister: Mary Ann (Ronald) Plesko of Streator; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He attended St. Mary's grade school and was a graduate of Streator high school with the Class of 1950. He was a bricklayer and life member of International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Crafts Workers Local 6.

He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the United States Navy 1951-1954. He was a life member and past commander of V.F.W. Post #1492 and a member of American Legion Post #217 and the Moose Family Center #372.
