"Berniece Irene (Leath) Rusk, 93, formerly of Veedersburg and who had been residing with her daughter, Betty Harding of 313 Holiday Drive, Attica, died at 9:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 1997, in St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital. She had been ill for the past two weeks and hospitalized for nine days. She was born May 25, 1903, at Veedersburg, the daughter of Edward and Maude Brewer Leath and had been raised by her mother and stepfather, John Phillips.

She married Raymond Rusk July 23, 1919 at Danville, Ill. He preceded her in death May 3, 1982. She attended the Veedersburg schools and lived in Veedersburg until 1982. She then moved to Plymouth until 1996 and moved to Attica with her daughter in April of 1996. She had formerly worked in a sewing factory in Danville and Crawfordsville for many years and later was a homemaker to her children. She was a former member of the Nazarene Church at Veedersburg and had been attending the Attica Free Methodist Church. She was a member of the War Mothers and Home Economics Club at Veedersburg and a member of the Women's Missionary Society of the Nazarene Church.

Surviving are: four daughters, Mrs. Charles (Wreatha) Weigle, Plymouth, Mrs. Mary Snyder, Austin, Texas, Mrs. Betty Harding, Attica, and Mrs. Carl (Barbara) Roark, Davenport, Fla.; a son, Dean Rusk, Lafayette; two sisters, Mrs. Floeta Bilstad, Veedersburg and Mrs. Virginia Hatton, Deer Creek, Ill.; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Wayne Rusk; four sisters; and a granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Tuesday) in Maus Funeral Home, Attica, With Rev. Marcos Gilmore officiating. Burial will be in the Rockfield Cemetery, Veedersburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Attica Free Methodist Church." – Fountain County Neighbor, January 14, 1997
