EVELYNE J. VESTAL
1926-2008

On March 24th, the Lord called one of his precious angels, Evelyne J. Vestal, home.
She leaves behind on this earth many sad people. To know her was to love her and she is already greatly missed. She was the greatest mother a child could have ever asked for.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Josephine; her brother, Preston Phillips and his wife MaryAnne; along with many other relatives and friends.
Surviving is her husband of 56 years, Joseph V. Vestal Jr.; her oldest son, Philip Joseph Vestal of Los Angeles, CA; her youngest, Shawn J. Vestal Sr. and his wife Kimberly; her grandsons, Shawn J. Vestal, Jr. and his wife Dana, Christopher Eric Vestal, Joseph Larry Vestal, Gerald Lacy III, and Parker Little. She leaves four sisters, Algene Neighbors of Dunn, NC, Mavis Younger (Doc) of Carthage, NC, Carolyn Clinard (Myrl) of Fayetteville, NC, and Martha McGhin (James) of St Mary's, GA; a brother-in-law, Charles Nelson; ten nephews, Russell, Cole, Chuck, Butch, Jimmy, Marty, Leo, Scott, Jimmy and Tommy; six nieces, Teresa, Panda, Wendy, Modesta, Pat and Sandra; a cousin, Wilton; and many more in the extended family. Also her beloved pets Toby and Daisy.
She worked for the FBI Espionage and Identification Division in Washington, DC and later retired from the U.S. Census Bureau so she could go to work at her career in volunteer work. Mom taught Sunday School, served as a Republican Committeewoman in Jacksonville, President of the Garden Club Jacksonville along with many other tasks. In Pensacola, she volunteered at American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society and many years for Baptist Hospital at HR, Diabetes Education and Wound Care Tower 3. She has many friends who work at Baptist and many friends that were patients. She always wanted to be a nurse so this was the closest thing she could do to help people. Momma always said that a smile was the only thing you can't give away because everybody keeps giving them back to you. She led her life by this motto, never complaining while suffering with so many health problems over the years.
For all her many deeds and acts, her greatest accomplishment may have been the successful marriage to "My Joe", and the love for her two boys, Phil and Shawn, as well as the accomplishments of her grandchildren. Also, the military careers of Shawn, Jr. in the Navy and Christopher currently serving in the USMC.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00pm Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel.
Funeral Service will be held 12:00 noon Friday, March 28, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church, with Pastor Stephen Linck and Pastor Bob Richter officiating. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
She also leaves behind a wonderful church family at Grace Lutheran Church that always supported her and gave her love. There are too many people to thank for their help in her life and in her struggles with health, but some of them are Pastor Linck, Scott Snyder, Dr. Irvin, Dr. Riche, Dr. Friedland, Dr. Stringfield and Dr. Aycock. There are so many to thank and by not including, please don't think we have forgotten all the wonderful people that have helped her over the years. From the bottom of our broken hearts, we sincerely thank each and every person that knew, loved or helped her. God received a special angel when we lost ours.
Active Pallbearers will be Scott Snyder, Bob Pollock, Larry Halvorsen, Phil Peterson, Terry Grepke and Nathan Krause.
Honorary Pallbearers will be her Grace Lutheran Church family and her Baptist Hospital friends.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 6601 N. 9th Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32504.
HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
