Mavis was born June 19, 1936 to Ennis and Ethel Phillips of Benson, NC.
She was a member of the Benson United Methodist Church and is affiliated with the Carthage United Methodist Church.
Mavis is survived by her husband of 60 years Richard R. “Doc” Younger of Carthage, two sons R. Cole (wife Kim) and Charles A. “Chuck” (wife Beth); four grandchildren, Christopher, Sarah, Codie and Casey; one great-grandchild, Lucy.
Mavis has four surviving sisters, Vira Hope Pope, Algene Neighbors, Martha McGhin and Carolyn Clinard, along with several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents, a brother, Preston and a sister, Evelyne Vestal.
Mavis’ career was being a wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker and volunteer. Mavis served on several local, state, and national boards of several different organizations.
Mavis was the first president of the NC Cowbelle Association (part of the NC Cattlemen Assoc.).
She was also extremely active in the organization of the original Moore County Driving Club.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Pinelawn Memorial Park with Rev. Michael Nelson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Carthage United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 70, Carthage, N.C. 28327.
