Kate was born January 7, 1901 in Keya Paha County, NE, the daughter of John and Rose (Short) Holbert. At the death of their mother, Kate, two sisters and two brothers were raised by their grandparents, Andrew and Agnes Short of Gordon, NE.

She married Eli George Meisner on September 1, 1921. They made their home in the sand hills of Nebraska, farming and ranching. To this union five children were born: Loren Wayne, Neva Ellen, Edward Loyde, Gorden George, and Doris May. They moved to Sundance in March of 1944. Eli died December 1947 while vacationing in Arizona for the winter months.

She continued to make her home in Sundance until September 8, 1955 when she married Claude H. Banks of Spearfish, SD. They made their home there for 35 years. Claude died November 13, 1990, and Kate moved back to Sundance. She made her home at the Green Mountain Estates.

Kate was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, an infant son, Loren Wayne Meisner, and one grandchild, Wayne Meisner, two sisters, Viola Coon and Vernice Gillian, two brothers, Raymond Holbert and Newton Holbert.
