John was the 2nd of three children born to Daniel Dry and Kiturah A. "Winnie" Gunn Dry Hutchings. When John's father, Daniel Dry, died in 1853 his mother, Kiturah, then married Alexander Martin Hutchings and they had nine children.
John fell in 1936 and fractured a hip. He died from pneumonia.
