Ruth Carol Abbott Kellogg was born to Earl and Melba (Spurrier) Abbott in Red Cloud, Nebraska on September 25, 1945. She passed away at Lawrence Kansas Memorial Hospital on May 28, 2023.

Carol grew up in Smith County, Kansas and attended the Oriole Grade School and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1963.

Carol was united in marriage at the Lebanon Christian Church. They were later divorced. However, two beautiful children blessed this marriage. They were the delight to both of their parents. They all found Salina, Kansas their home while the children were in school and involved in many activities.

Carol always wanted to be where there was fun. She moved to Lawrence, the home of her beloved Jayhawks and the Village she loved.

Carol found much joy in helping others. It was no surprise she enjoyed her employment assisting the elderly. She worked at Retirement Management Company, Arbor Court and Presbyterian Manor. She also served as Activities Director for Brandon Wood Retirement Center.

Carol also had a calling to be a part of the Greek Life on campus. This led her to be a House "Mom" to Sigma Chi Fraternity as well as a House "Mom" to The Jewish Sorority at KU.

Carol was strong, determined, smart, witty, beautiful and ambitious. She possessed these precious traits, but a long history of health issues DID NOT slow her down!

Even as recent as 2019, Carol rented a storage unit in Lawrence, filled it, packed her car and headed to The University of Idaho! Here she became a Resident Assistant to Delta Delta Delta and Delta Gamma Sorority.

In the spring of 2022, Carol received the devastating news that her cancer had returned. Her wishes were to return home to Lawrence for treatment. Yes, Lawrence and yes the home of her Beloved Jayhawks. Carol will be greatly missed by her many friends and her wonderful family.

Carol is survived by her children, grandson, & great grandchildren.

Carol is proceeded in death by her parents: Earl and Melba Abbott, & brothers.

Memorial Services and inurnment will be at the Mt Hope Church/Cemetery (North Smith County Kansas) on June 24, 2023 at 11:00 AM. There will be a memorial service held in Lawrence, those details will be updated as soon as they are available.
