Funeral Rites Are Pending For Physician
Rites are pending here for longtime Merced physician Dr. Walter Adams, who died Sunday in Merritt Hospital in Oakland at the age of 61. Dr. Adams, a past chief of staff for Mercy Hospital, began his medical practice at the Merced Medical Clinic here in 1955 after having received his degree from Washington University Medical School in St. Louis and serving his residency and internship in Oakland. He was born in Stockton Sept. 16, 1919 and grew up in Piedmont. He attended the University of California at Berkeley and was graduated from the University of Michigan. He was a past member of the Mercy Hospital advisory board, past president of the Merced County Heart Association, a past president of the Merced Gold and Country Club and a member of the American Medical Association and the Elks Lodge. Survivors are his wife, Eileen of Merced; a daughter, Carol of Merced; five sons, Walter of Merced; Bill, Steve and Tom, all of Lincoln City, Ore., and Jim, Incline Village, Nev.; a brother, Don of Salmon, Idaho, and a sister, Doris Leebrick of Annapolis, Md.

Members of Merced Elks Lodge 1240 will conduct the rites at the Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Chapel. Dr. Adams, a past chief of staff for Merced Hospital, began his medical practice at the Merced Medical Clinic in 1955 after receiving his medical training at Washington University in St. Louis and serving a residency and internship in Oakland.
