1805 Adam 13 years old fathered a daughter Mary Jane with Nance Taulby, who was nine years older, and lived on a farm next to Adam's family. His father would not allow him to marry until he was 16 years old.

In Breathitt Co KY, Adam Birchfield, a early settler, told the story during his lifetime, that when he first came into the county he found a hunters camp on this branch of Frozen Creek, and on a nearby tree was carved the name of the great wilderness pathfinder, "Daniel Boone", indicating that it was his camp.
