TWO PIONEERS Of GALESBURG DEAD—Both Well-known In the Community.
GALESBURG, Mich., Nov. 10.—(Special)—The funeral services of Mrs. Cordelia Holmes are to occur from the Congregational church in this village, Friday at 1:30 p. m. The death of Mrs. Holmes occurred at noon on Tuesday and its suddenness was a sad surprise to an unusually wide circle of relatives and friends. The deceased, as a daughter of the late Jesse Earl was a representative of the oldest pioneer family in this section of Kalamazoo county and her lifelong residence had made her acquaintance in the community almost universal. She was 64 years of age. Alfred Holmes, her husband, died a year and a half since and up to a very recent period her home had been with a brother residing near this village. A few months since she purchased a neat home on Main street and there the brief period of her survival has been passed. Mrs. Holmes took great interest not only in the work of the church with which she was connected, but also in all the activities of the Ladies' Library and kindred organizations and her death is a serious loss to all. Among surviving relatives in this vicinity are Mrs. F. O. Crossfleld, a sister, and Herbert Earl, a brother. Kalamazoo Evening Telegraph November 10, 1904 page 7
