A lifelong and esteemed resident of Corbetton community, Mrs. Bert Henderson, entered into rest on Wednesday, January 19, 1972, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alton Oldfield, Corbetton, in her 88th year.
The former Janet Mae Bolen, she was born in Melancthon Township, March 9, 1884, daughter of the late Thomas and Matilda (Ferrier) Bolen. On June 7, 1905, she was married to Bert Henderson. The couple farmed on concession 2, Melancthon, until retiring to Corbetton village 20 years ago. Mr. Henderson predeceased his wife November 14, 1969.
Surviving Mrs. Henderson are three sons and five daughters, namely: Bolen of Nashville, Ontario; Douglas of Calgary, Alberta; Eldon of Shelburne; Aleth (Mrs. Gordon Acheson) of Shelburne; Dell (Mrs. Alton Oldfield) of Corbetton; Helen (Mrs. E. A. Stinson) Agincourt; Elva (Mrs. Leonard Keast) Shelburne, and Ella (Mrs. Tracy Melenson) Toronto; also 22 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Two surviving sisters are Miss Della Bolen and 0live (Mrs. Homer Besley) of Shelburne. Two brothers and two sisters predeceased her: Alex. and Roy Bolen; Sarah (Mrs. David McCosh) and Maude (Mrs. Alex. Ferguson).
Mrs. Henderson was a lifelong member of the former Methodist and later of the United Church, in which she took an active interest.
In early life she was a member of the True Blue Lodge. Mrs. Henderson possessed many outstanding qualities and was held in high regard.
The funeral was on Saturday, January 22, when a largely-attended service was conducted by Rev. Hugh Mactaggart of Corbetton United Church, assisted by Mr. W. J. Stewart of Rexdale, a longtime friend of the family. Mrs. John Dolmer was pianist.
Temporary entombment was in Shelburne Mortuary.
The pallbearers were Ed. Oldfield, Emerson Ludlow, George Wilson, Urquhart McCosh, Burton Besley and Ron Bolen.
Grandsons served as pallbearers. They were: Jim Oldfield, John Keast, Laurie Melenson, Don and Bert Stinson, Douglas Wake, Al, Terry and Robert Henderson.
Relatives and friends were present from Toronto, Scarboro, Willowdale, Barrie, Collingwood, Elmwood, Port Credit, lslington and nearby centres and district.
