Stephen was born in Northampton, MA. He was the first child of Louis and Jennie (Parent) Choquette. He was a photographer and even designed the early emblems on the cars of the Holyoke Police Department. He moved to California where he opened a photography studio.

While in California, he met and married the first of three wives. His first wife was Myrtle Brown, with whom he had two children, Phyliss, born in 1917 and Wallace Stephen, born in 1919. After Myrtle died, Stephen met and married his second wife, Ora Mae Garrison. They had three children together: Stephen Edward, born in Holyoke, MA in 1923, Geraldine, born in CA in 1924 and Helen, born in CA in 1926. He was widowed for a second time and moved back to Holyoke, MA. There, he met and married his third wife, Frances Kreinski, on September 21, 1935. They had a daughter, Evelyn, born in 1941. After moving back to California, Stephen died there in 1975.
