Helen was born in Santa Rosa, CA in 1926. She was the third child born to Stephen Salem and Ora Mae (Garrison) Choquette. She married her brother's brother-in-law, Oliver Theriault and had two sons, Bruce and Billy. She then married John Trites. Her sons took his last name. John and Helen had three more children, Darylann, Valerie and Rick. Helen died around Thanksgiving in 1982 in San Mateo, California.
