The results of a 67 marker yDNA test of a living male Cole
in Wading River, Long Island, NY has strongly confirmed
that Hezekiah was a son of Samuel and Mary Kingsbury Cole
and the progenitor of the Windham County, CT, Plainfield,
NH and West Charleston, VT branches of the Cole family.
These results also indicate that John Cole the carpenter,
of Hartford, CT was the Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA).

The yDNA results also refute old information which
indicated that the Plainfield and Cornish, New Hampshire
Cole families are descendants of Ephriam and Susannah
(West) Cole of the Duxbury area of MA..

"Hez" may have traveled from Hartford to Stratfield with
the family and stayed for awhile before he removed to the
Windham County area, but this is not clear. There are some
early records of a Hezekiah Cole in the Stratford,
Stratfield and Norwalk areas of Fairfield County, but this
may not be our man. (see below).

Lester Card, a South Norwalk genealogist researched Norwalk
land records in the 1930's and found that in 1767,
Hezekiah Cole of Pomfret, Connecticut , gave power of
attorney to his "loving brother", Daniel Cole of Wilton
Parish, Norwalk, and to act for him in disposing of his
interest in the estate of "our honored father, Samuel Cole
of Wilton". Lester Card also checked Pomfret vital records
and found Hezekiah Cole of Pomfret was married 29 Dec 1725
to Sarah Main at Plainfield, Connecticut.

These town records offer reasonable proof of Hezekiah's
close relationship to the Cole family of Wilton Parish,
Norwalk, Connecticut. and his marriage date shows that
Hezekiah was in Windham County as a young man.

(An extensive series of articles on the Hartford / Wilton
Cole family, prepared by Lester Card, can be found in
several editions of the "Wilton Bulletin" weekly newpaper,
during the months of August, September and October, 1939).
Hez's (apparently he preferred this nickname) marriage is
recorded in Plainfield, CT vital records (Volume 1, page
37).

There are two Cole children recorded in Plainfield church
records as dying in 1749, one named Hezekiah and possibly
another named Stephen.

The Barbour Collection (Vital records of Windham County,
CT) lists eight of Hezekiah and Sarah's nine children.

After Hezekiah died in the Windham County, CT area, his
wife Sarah moved to Plainfield, NH to live with her son
Ebenezer, She died in 1799 and is buried in River Cemetery
with other members of the family. Her gravemarker is
completely legible.

Hez's place of burial in Windham County, Connecticut is
unknown.
