6th Great Grandfather.

It is believed that Daniel & Nathaniel both born the 18th of August 1701 were twins or one in the same.

Daniel was born in Hartford, Hartford County, but moved to Stratfield in Fairfield county when the rest of the family moved. He was a Tanner by trade.

He married Elizabeth Belden of Wilton, CT, in 1728, a daughter of the prominent family of William and Margaret (Arms) Belden. He joined the Congregational Church of Wilton Parish in 1733 and by 1783, he and his family were listed for the "Great Pew" in the Wilton Church.

All the men in this family except for Asa moved from Wilton and most went to New York State. But Asa was deeded 100 acres of the Wilton farmland by his father. The 1740 Wilton road map shows Daniel Cole's home on the east side of Danbury-Norwalk road in the Pimpewaug (later, Cannondale) area of Wilton Parish.

While not able to conclusively prove that Daniel and his wife Elizabeth Belden are buried at Sharp Hill Cemetery, many of the old headstones and other such burial markers are gone by way of the ages or have become very illegible to extract any data from. While there are no recorded records for this cemetery, it does not detract from the fact that many of those who lived in this area are buried here.

The bulk of information is from my own personal research, using the initial work done by Lester Card, as a working guide in the beginning. Mr. Card's work like any research has noted mistakes but he was well known for his genealogical research. He was good at what he did.
