Elizabeth, a daughter of David and Elizabeth Lacefield Sowder, was born in Kentucky, and moved with her parents to Washington County, Indiana. There, in 1827, she married (1) William C. Basore; the couple moved to LaSalle County, Illinois. He died in 1835, and Elizabeth married (2) William Rainey in 1837 in LaSalle County. He died in 1851, and Elizabeth then married (3) Isaac Painter, about 1855, surviving him, too.

"William Rainey, Sr., who was born in Kentucky, in April, 1803, and on leaving that state removed to Ohio, whence he came to Illinois in 1833. He settled on section 25, Bruce township, LaSalle county...He worked in Bruce township as a blacksmith for George Basore, a native of Virginia, and following the death of Mr. Basore he married his widow in June 1837. She [Elizabeth] was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, May 1, 1810, and by this marriage they became the parents of four children. William Rainey...died in this county March 28, 1851, while his wife survived to an advanced age, passing away February 15, 1902. Their son, William Rainey, Jr., was born in Streator, September 13, 1840..." (U. J. Hoffman, History of La Salle County, Illinois (Chicago: S. J. Clarke Publishing Co., 1906), p. 749.) This account confuses George Basore, father, with William C. Basore, son.

"Calloway Basore, son of the foregoing [George Basore], married Sotter's sister, and died of cholera, just after returning from the land sale, in 1835. His widow married William Rainey, and after his death, she married Isaac Painter...
"John and David Sotter, from Indiana, in 1834; John died soon, and David returned to Indiana.
"William Rainey, from Kentucky, first came to Ohio, from there here in 1833, and settled on S[ection]. 25; married Sotter's sister, widow of C. Basore. He died many years since." (Account of Bruce Township in: Elmer Baldwin, History of LaSalle County, Illinois (Chicago: Rand, McNally & Co., 1877), pp. 342-43.)
