Henry initially enlisted into the 71st Pa Inf July 1st 1861 and served in the regiment until near the end of the war when the 71st was stood down. In order to finish his period of enlistment he was transferred to the 69th Pa. on 12th June 1864. He was mustered out a month later on the 11th July 1864 term completed.

Though not perhaps served time as an active member of the 69th Pa as many of his other 71st members did with honor, it is felt that his association with the 69th merits this small tribute to him. No doubt he knew well many of his fellow citizens of Philadelphia already in the 69th. The two regiments fought close together in many battles no better example being than at Gettysburg.
