Mark Alan Wellborn, a loving father, husband, teacher, and friend, tragically passed away unexpectedly on September 6. He was born on June 20, 1956, in St. Louis, Missouri and grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1980, he relocated to Texas with his family.

For 31 years, Mark worked in Plano ISD as a high school humanities teacher, gifted and talented coordinator and director of professional learning. During that time, he also taught history at Collin College and continued to do that to date. Mark was honored to be Plano ISD's Teacher of the Year in 1994.

So many young lives and teachers were positively impacted through Mark's work. Through his love of history and music he was able to express himself creatively and share those passions with others lucky enough to know him. Mark's sense of humor and quick wit made everyone's lives more enriched. He could always put a smile on your face even in the darkest times.

Music was Mark's life. He played lead guitar and sang vocals in several bands over the years. It was one of his favorite pastimes and hobbies.

Mark is survived by his wife, Lisa; his four daughters - Christine and her husband, Justin; Kara and her husband, Jeremy; Kelli and her husband, Michael; Brittany and her husband, Josh; and his grandchildren - Braden, Mandy, Karsyn, Kellyn, and Hunter. Mark is also survived by his brother, Tim and his wife, Pam, and their two children, Makenna and Brecken.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, for loved ones and friends to pay their respects.

Mark requested friends and family to donate to two non-profits to in lieu of flowers: the McKinney Musician Relief Fund and the SPCA.
