JoNeil B. Scruggs, 83, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2023 at Wendover Hospice House. Jo was born on December 10, 1939 to Aaron and Ruby Bridges of Boiling Springs. After graduating from Boiling Springs High School, Jo married her one true love, James T Scruggs in Gaffney, SC on June 27, 1959.
Jo and J.T. had two sons, James Christopher Scruggs (Chris) and Craig Steven Scruggs, of whom she was very proud. Jo was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She worked for a number of years outside of the home, retiring from Kemet in 1995. In retirement she enjoyed traveling and moving to new places as J.T. continued to run operations for PPG within and outside the U.S. She loved spending time with her family. Known as "Ma Scruggs" to her great grandchildren, Jo enjoyed her visits with them and we loved the way her face would light up as she would watch them play and hear their laughter.
Jo was predeceased by her parents and two sisters, Doris Splawn and Geraldine Humphries.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, her sons, Chris of Boiling Springs, N.C., Craig and his wife, Amber, of Spartanburg, S.C., a granddaughter Lauren Campbell and her husband, Adam, and three great grandchildren, Eveen, Belgrave and Keltie of Bath, N.C. Two nieces also survive, Donna VanDyke of Boiling Springs and Susan George and her husband, Robbie, of Gaffney, S.C.
A memorial service will be held at Central United Methodist Church on May, 17, 2023 at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends immediately after the service at the Earl Scruggs Center. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Earl Scruggs Center, Box 2063, Shelby, NC 28151, or Hospice House, 953 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
